CommentsGreat web site... truly impressive... The cougar? I have heard it, probably not a cougar though... I have been very close to more than one and their cry is quite different than what I have heard on the island. I have lived and hunted in Alaska, California, Oregon, Maine, etc. and most self respecting cougars would be where there is plenty of room to roam. I have seen the scat of the animal and it is quite small... pets are also eaten by coyote's, wolves, and raccoons... no dogs have been devoured or maimed so my guess is it is a small (lynx), coyote, etc. Hopefully, they will catch the animal and give it a trip to the Olympic mountains. Mike Venuto
CommentsDid they catch the cougar yet? Jim
CommentsAbout a month ago around 11:30 pm I heard the Cougar's "cry". Approximately a week later, around 9 pm, I saw it slinking in the bushes alongside the road going up the hill (Kamus Drive). When I got into the house my son told me he had just seen the Cougar across the street and that it headed up the hill. I then told him that I had just seen it myself.
CommentsWhy not publish the population of Fox Island on the Web Page!
CommentsWonderful Site! I am so glad that I finally found it! Please keep up the good work, and thank you for your time and efforts. Will you be adding more on the history and perhaps genealogical information?
CommentsI am quite interested if anyone has complained/talked about the bombing in that took place Saturday night, 7/22 between 10 and 11:30 on the west end sandspit? Actually it just sounded like a bombing as the Demolay was either having on good time party or had rented the spit out to some others who did. From 10pm until 11:30pm we on the West end and across the inlet were lambasted by blaring music and fireworks that rattled the windows. This was a professional show. At first a few explosions are tolerated. We all have occasions to celebrate! Come the second, third, forth, five, volley shaking the kids awake, I had to pull the cat off the wall. By 10:30pm you would think, "OK. They're done." Nope. Just changing CD's and reloading. 11:15pm - 911 - "Is this about the sandspit? We'll put you on the list." 11:35 cars go roaring at various speeds with horns blasting along Bella Bella and across the bridge, off OUR island. ISSUE: Why are people from outside our community allowed to disrupt our island's peace and quiet? Are there no laws? Why were there not signs indicating the the west end was going to be blown up like at the only was on the island at the bridge? Why were the signs used for construction warnings found the next morning to have been moved and used for indictors the "fireworks" at the driveway to the Demoela? Think there could be a fire safety issue here? Where were the State Patrol or the County Sheriff? They did appear after everyone was leaving according to one neighbor. Heard anything?? I can't, my ears are still ringing.
CommentsWe just got on line and are very happy to see what a great job you have done with the pictures and information. Thanks for a job well done, it will be fun to visit www.foxisland.net often. Betty Melton
CommentsThank you so much for letting us know about the cougar. I didn't know that there were any this close much less on the island. I understand that a dogs barking will scare it away. I have a dog and a pot belly pig outside in a pen and I pray they will be all right. Please keep us up to date on the sightings. Thanks again. Wendy and Steve
CommentsI have info on cougar sightings on FI. Is this something you would like to include on your website?
CommentsWell done!!! Will pass this site on to relatives back east and in Calif.! Poor bear, didn't know we had any left on the island. We've been here 13 yrs. and pretty soon deer and bear habitat will be gone! Thanks again for taking the time to do this!
CommentsHow about establishing a bulletin board on the web site where individuals can ask questions, and seek information? For instance, at about 12:30 last night, Wednesday June 21, my wife and her sister both heard what sounded like multiple gun shots coming from the Pilchuck Drive area, or perhaps the woods between Pilchuck Drive and Queets Drive, and I wonder if anyone has an explanation. Thanks, Roy Kiner
CommentsJune 1st there was a meeting and the subject of movie night at the center was to be brought up for discussion. I was wondering what the response was on that subject as I would support it. Wanted to hear what others thought. Will look for news about it on the web page. Thanks, an island resident.
Commentswhat is the population on Fox Island
CommentsWe just moved to the island and are interested in meeting people! This community movie night sounds like a very enjoyable method of doing just that!! Besides, I love movies!!!
CommentsI like this site and visit often. I haven't heard about the bear lately. Any more news?
CommentsI live near Cleveland, OH. At my daughter's (Liz Kelly-Koepfler of Fox Island) suggestion I visited your web page to see the bear photos. I am VERY impressed with your page! Many, many communities much larger than yours do not have nearly as attractive and informative web site. Congratulations!!
CommentsI was in the Texaco Station Saturday morning and talked with two of the people working if they had any more news about the bear. They informed me that it was sighted a "couple" of days ago, swimming towards the mainland. Do we have any news of any more sightings? Webmaster's note: This was the last confirmed sighting of the "Fox Island Bear". It has not been seen since.
CommentsGREAT BEAR PICTURES!!!!! This bear visited us again today. My husband was working outside on his car and the bear walked right past him and climbed a tree that was only 25 feet away from him. Our son in law was the one that freaked and it scared the bear away. So much for his machoism....:)) This happened in the middle of the day so he or she is starting to come out more. Just remember everyone, this bear LOVES garbage cans and Sunday night and Monday should be a smorgasbord of delights for him. Lets all remember to be careful as I feel the bear is more afraid of us than we are of him. Keep those cameras rolling....
CommentsA lot of people have seen this bear. He seems to be pretty mellow and only looking for food. I would love to see someone put up pictures of this precious creature on this site for all to enjoy. I tried to take pictures however, my camera was nowhere to be found. I have since found it and have it hanging on the stair banister. We live on Kamus down from the fire station and have been visited twice now by this big guy. He seems to come visiting in the evenings sometime after 5:00pm. I I am so glad to see that other people have have this bear visiting them also since people tend not to believe you when you mention it. Enjoy this rare experience.......
CommentsHi, I would like to be put in the newsletter. I would really appreciate this. If you can do this can you call me at 549-4545 and/or email me at Krillin Boy13@aol.com and/or Mountain Dew1314@aol.com. In the News letter I would like is said like this if you could: John, 14, CPR and First Aid Certified Babysitter P.S. Again, if you can do this can you call me at 549-4545 and/or email me at Krillin Boy13@aol.com and/or Mountain Dew1314@aol.com . If you cant please do the same so I may know.
CommentsWe were truly excited to see a bear prints on our porch and then to see the bear sorting out items in our garbage can. This was about 5PM 4-28-00 at our place on Cedrona Bay. We called the Dept. of Wildlife and the person who spoke to us suggested putting our garbage can in the garage for awhile. He did not indicate any concern about the situation. The bear walked through our daughter's raised garden beds and it punctured the garbage can, but in exchange we really got a thrill. We shooed away a neighbor's dog and got our cats in. The bear really shook our fig tree, apparently trying to knock down the bird houses in it. Dan got some good photos with his digital camera and in minutes had prints done using his computer. CommentsFANTASTIC SITE!! Now that I can't get out much, I really am enjoying this site and being able to keep up to date on island happenings. How about a "Island Wildlife" section? There have been several sightings of a black bear the past week. Just last night it was in our yard and stayed for a while. I think it is just checking things out. He certainly is a beautiful creature! Everyone should be aware that this big guy is here and children should also be made aware. In the 16 that we have lived on Fox Island, this is only the second time I have seen a bear. This is truly a rare site. Lets remember, these creatures were here long before us. I am so happy to see this site!! You did a fantastic job, keep up the good work.
CommentsPlease have more TEEN DANCES if possible. Thank you!!! :)
CommentsI think having a movie night here on the island would be great. I know my grandkids would sure enjoy seeing a movie while visiting there nana and papa as often as they do here on island blvd. Hope you get alot of positive response.
Lee Burgess
Without the support of the many riders that come year after year for this event we would not be able to carry this off. Thank you all for your patience and understanding and most of all for your contribution of participating and helping to keep our small museum viable with your monetary support. Dave Mc Hugh, President Fox Island Historical Society
CommentsHi, Michelle
CommentsThis is a great site!!
CommentsI thought the Dance was cool. We should have more!!!!!!!
CommentsAwesome!!! Thank-you for all the work you have done!! Madge Hubbard
CommentsGreat web site!! Keep up the good work. I would be interested in the boat ramp discussion as well. How can we get info on what the plans were to revise the launch? Plus, will anyone take on the task or should we form a committee? Also is there any discussion on doing anything to the old ferry dock? Chris Lawler
CommentsI am really impressed with this web site. I kept thinking as I crossed the bridge and saw the sign that it was a commercial web site and didn't bother to look at it. It's wonderful. Thanks! You are to be congratulated on a great job. Your Fox Island neighbor Carolyn Kelley
Comments:I love it, I love it, I love it! Your website is almost as good as being there. Our daughter, Marcy Powell, told me of the Web site today so I had to find it and I was so delighted with it. My husband or I try to visit our daughter and her family about every 3 months so now I can know what is going on when I am not there. Thank you so much for the coverage of the playground. Everyone has worked so hard and you have been very helpful in putting the word out about needing volunteers. Marcy has lived, breathed, and dreamed (a few nightmares) about the playground for so long it will be wonderful when all the kids can enjoy it. Thank you again for bringing Fox Island into my home whenever I want. Janet George (one who wishes she could live on your lovely island)
CommentsRegarding the boat launch: We recently hosted Jon Ortgieson(Pierce County Parks-responsible for design of boat launch revamp) to discuss the playground with us and had a long conversation with him about the boat launch also. The resistance is not just coming from governmental agencies but also from Fox Islanders. The project was all set to be built a few years ago-design and funding was secured but was stopped because of the objections by Islanders. Jon is quite open to reviving the project but would need volunteers to help push the project through and obtain funding due to Pierce County Park's current budget crunch. We are interested but our "plate is a little full" with the Playground project. Anyone else interested in following up??
CommentsFirst, the Web site: It's beautiful, it's great, I wish I had thought of it. Nice work. Secondly, the boat launch. We need to have the area improved. The ramp itself needs work, the parking area is woefully inadequate and the water approach to the ramp is too shallow. The Fish & Game Dept. objections are ridiculous. The area that would be affected is infinitesimal compared to the total marine area around the island and the Gig Harbor Peninsula, yet the improvements would benefit many individuals. Marine life will proliferate on the new banks just as it has done since the dawn of time. If the planned expansion would impact a salmon stream, I could understand their objections, but no such valuable resource would be affected, as far as I can see. I do think we need to stop people from dropping their crab pots from the bridge, just because their activities on the bridge create dangerous situations for them and for legitimate pedestrians who use the bridge, with all the vehicular traffic that we have now. Also, I think that Parks or Fisheries should develop the old ferry dock into a fishing pier. Maybe that would keep some of the people off the bridge. Again, congratulations on the Web Site. It's terrific. Roy Kiner
CommentsI have been trying to find out information about the Fox Island Yacht Club for several weeks. I am interested in having my wedding event at the grounds. I cannot reach them by phone and would just like a simple tour of the grounds and information on wedding availability. If you could forward my request or give me a way to contact them I would really appreciate it. Again, I do have their phone number and leaving a message or speaking with someone is impossible. Thank you.
CommentsOur first visit to the web site. Thanks for the effort. Keep up the good work.
CommentsGreat web site! Good info, and serves a purpose. Hope it's not too much work to maintain. A couple suggestions: Might include hours of the post office on it's site; might ask people to submit photos to get a variety of angles etc on island life- could change them now and then. Thanks for the good resource. Rick
Category: Web site Comments:FANTASTIC web site...so exciting to see it take shape! Thanks for posting the info on
the Fox Island Playground...construction is under way! Islanders have been SOOOO
generous...we have collected over $37,000 and the playground will be something for us all
to be proud of. We would like to post some of the many wonderful stories about it...every
time we opened our mouths to say "We need..."-an islander responded immediately!
Category: Historical Society Comments:You have a fantastic gift for creating a great website. This site puts Fox Island right
up there with the best. I especially appreciate the Fox Island Historical Society site.
Thanks FICRA, thanks John and Lise' for all you done.

CommentsYou have all done an outstanding job putting this all together!!! Thanks for all your hard work.
CommentsAbsolutely super! I haven't explored the whole site, but what I've seen so far is great. The site is a superb introduction to our little piece of "paradise." All we need now is our very own internet server!
CommentsI visited Fox Island yesterday (6/14) and saw a lighthouse, but I can not find any information on the lighthouse. What is the name of the lighthouse and where might I find any information on it? Thank you. Mandie Boothby mboot1234@aol.com
CommentsGreat Web site! Thanks to all those who took the time effort and $ to make it happen. I saw the sign as I was driving across the bridge foxisland.net. Like most people these days it seems always hard to find the time to get involved. There is one area that I would like to get involved with or if there is any information I can get regarding the boat ramp area on the bridge. I have been using the ramp for a few years and see as many do the problems of parking and mostly safety. I have seen to many close calls and frustrated individuals or inconsiderate people. Is this a county problem or is there anything we/I could do to help. Is there a committee I could volunteer on? Please email or call Thank you David Jermstad
CommentsWebsite is great idea--should be a real winner!
CommentsWe really like this website ... I would also like to suggest that the bed and breakfast and other businesses advertise in this website. Thank you ... Marilyn & Bernie Tolan
Comments:John, can Laura and I set up an email address via foxisland.net? Let me know if this is possible, pricing, etc. and then how to set up. Thanks. Don Musgrave
Comments:Good Job! Nice site! I'm looking forward to more. Claudia & Warren Gustafson
CommentsWheeee-----this is fun....just had to visit the site again. I really love it! Under organizations, Alliance Church, Andre Snodgrass is the senior pastor, he's just returned from a 9 month study leave,--I'll contact them this week and make sure they get accurate information to you. I think there is an Alliance Website (I know there is one for the student ministries)--anyway will get info to you this week. Cindy Dille
